ICE BOILER TUBES ICE's workshop is equipped with modern tube bending equipment as well as facilities for automated welding of tube sections and machinery for the manufacture of pin-tubes.
BENT TUBES for all types of boilers are manufactured in our workshop whether it is a few pieces of different shape or if several hundreds alike for a complete retubing of big "D-type / Two-drum" boilers. The automated bending process allows us to bend tubes fast and efficient to exact shape, and our manual machinery is used where single tubes of different shape is required, e.g. burner inlet tubes. Closely bent elbows for e.g. economisers are also supplied, heat-treated if required by client.
Various boiler manufacturers such as Sunrod, Aalborg and TPK have for decades used the highly efficient PIN TUBE in their boilers, in order to get a large heating surface from a relatively small number of tubes. For more than a decade ICE have been producing pin-tubes for replacement of existing worn-out units. Very early, we discovered that the major point of failure was the lower elbow and consequently we started studies to improve the design in order to extend the service life of the unit. The studies carried out resulted in an elbow fitted not in centre as original, but off-centre and slightly tilted to allow larger bending radii as well as a longer elbow to better facilitate the expansion of the pin-tube during operation of the burner. This design has proven to be a success as it is now adopted by several of the original manufacturers as well.ICE's pin-tubes carry an approval from the major classification societies, e.g. DNV, LR, BV, ABS, and may be delivered with certificate from either of same.
Boiler tubes ranging from 38 – 76 mm in diameter can be assembled into TUBE WALL SECTIONS by fully automated fin-welding process, which allows an equal heat input throughout the entire length of the tube, which cannot always be assured if manual welding is used. These tube wall sections are widely used in many boiler types, as they are completely gastight and hereby used in "mono wall" constructions. In addition, sections ready bent from workshop is delivered for e.g. floor / side / roof in "D-type / Two-drum" boilers.
Many different types of finned tubes as well as un-finned ECONOMISER TUBES for any make of economiser are also delivered, either as spare parts with tube elbows, connection tubes etc. supplied loose, - or fully assembled into complete sections which comes hydraulic tested and with class certificate ready to fit into the economiser. The advantage of complete sections are obviously that the repair time onboard the vessel may be shortened as the majority of tube welds are already made (and tested) from the workshop.
